wows. so much has happened since i last blogged. hang on i cant even remember when i last blogged! lols. this is an omen, i fear.
lets start with um germany portugal? i feel the own goal reeaalllyyy turned things round for germany alot. it could have been 2-1. and if figo had been brought on earlier, it might have been 2 all, and they might have progressed into extra time and shootouts. oh wells. we'll never know.
didnt even bother staying up for italy france. i just woke around 5 to watch the ending and when i looked outside, most of my neighbours were like sleeping. hahaha see i knew it. most of spore supports either england or brazil. its so...colonialist. bleagh. like that bloody richard gere ad for visa (or was it mastercard? i dont even rmb).
"more birds, more luck!"
and them shaking their heads and pretending they didnt know what was going on after all the birds were released. what RUBBISH LA. the white man's burden was emphasised all too much as self-respecting history students would know. actually my sea history sucks but hey. same same right. haha.
anyway where was i. oh yah. i cant stand how so many sporeans support england. for the majority its just because the epl is all they watch and the english players the only ones they can identify. colonial overtones anyone? like for e.g. ppl wont watch the finals, but theyll stay up to watch england vs trinidad and tobago?! and during the portugal england shootouts. i swear i was like the only portugal supporter in my entire condo estate. everytime england scored (which wasnt alot), raucous cheers would erupt from several corners of the blocks, but when ronaldo slammed in the winner for portugal, my neighbourhood suddenly turned very quiet. silence all around. wth. i didnt even dare to cheer in jubilation lest my neighbours heard and i find a pile of rotten eggs at my doorstep the next morning. its like you know,
oh you support england? well so does everybody else!and everytime i hear the "ENGLAND, WIN THE WORLD CUP" song on radio i cant stop laughing. its so....english. lols. like typically unrealistically optimistic and arrogant. and colonialist. OKAY I SHALL CUT IT WITH THE COLONIAL THING. later ppl say i'm racist.
oh yeah watched superman returns today. it was actually surprisingly...not bad! i cant bring myself to say 'good' haha. cuz really it wasnt like all thrilling or anything but well, i liked it. i didnt like the lex luthor in the show ( i swear the one in smallville is THE real Lex Luthor), thought kevin spacey overdid it a little. brandon routh...was pretty good looking. HAHA. he's a pretty good superman imo. i cant rmb if i've watched the original superman so i cant really comment there. kate bosworth was disappointingly so-so. not terrible but not fantastic either.
hitherto (hahaha all gp's fault), i thought i wouldnt be used to all these new actors to the characters cuz i was so used to tom welling and kristin kreuk etc (smallville, which is a good show), plus the trailer for superman returns was so horrifically campy and corny.
but amazingly within those 2 1/2 hours, i grew to like this new superman.
so yeah my verdict is simply, if you're looking for a bit of no-strings-attached unemotional entertainment, and for girls- eye candy, Go watch it. :)))))
anyway i think i've blabbed on for long enough. its just that i'm so relieved to be able to type in broken english. fo the past few days, had to make a concerted effort to speak in perfect english, topped off with a little american accent if possible. lols. cousin and his parents came over from canada. communications still kinda hard; he's very quiet. i think its partly cuz he cant understand our singlish accent. sigh.
you know, not to be insulting or anything because i'm singaporean myself, but our national level of english is truly atrocious. i'm not saying singlish is bad or anything, but its definitely affected our language capacity. not everyone recognises the situation to switch between the two, plus not everybody is effortlessly able to. our english is so bad we don't even realise it.
to add insult to injury, our chinese is horrific too. no one is born ambidextrous!
there goes lee kuan yew's dream of bilingualism.
